Examples of workshops with lessons learned

The Guide for Reflection and Workshop Facilitation was used for designing and piloting three different workshops; experiences garnered and lessons learned by their facilitators are presented here.

Example 1
Brief lunch-bag talk in German followed by a discussion to strengthen awareness of different roles of scientists. Suitable for scientists with a general interest in sustainability transformations, and for professionals working with evidence from science and collaborating with scientists. Developed by Sibylle Studer and Franziska Marfurt (SCNAT until October 2023), based on inputs provided by Hanna Salomon and Sabine Hoffmann (Eawag).

Example 2
90-minute onsite workshop that welcomes a broad audience to reflect on roles of scientists. It uses photos of scientists (figure 4) as a discussion canvas and is based on the work of Prof. Roger Pielke and others. Developed by Simone Ritzer (Wageningen University & Research).

Example 3
90-minute online workshop
designed for researchers and transformation practitioners who engage in sustainability transformations. Suitable for scientists aware of role diversity; also contains a facilitation track for a mixed audience of scientists and other societal actors. It uses model 2 (Oberlack et al. 2019) as a discussion canvas and figure 5 for interaction. Developed by Sibylle Studer and Franziska Marfurt (SCNAT until October 2023).
