The Quaternary was modulated by important environmental changes but terrestrial archives remain often fragmentary. Karst, which represents c. 20% of Switzerland’s surface area, provides a unique opportunity to recover environmental information over hundreds of thousands of years. Detailed exploration and documentation of this environment represents a prerequisite for any subsequent scientific research.

Understanding how caves form, holds the key to reconstruct surface landscape evolution and while speleothems provide information on climate changes at decadal to orbital time-scales, paleontological and archaeological remains provide a link to surface environments. However, the conservation and exploitation of karst resources call for adapted engineering solutions to support a sustainable management of this environment.

In addition, we encourage contributions, especially from students (BSc/MSc/PhD) and young researchers to present their ongoing research in the poster session. Please note that the topic of the poster session is not restricted to the Karst Record, contributions from all Quaternary disciplines are welcome. Contributions can be in English, German, French or Italian.
