Mountain Research and Development is looking for contributions that address the title question by presenting systematically validated experiences, integrated analyses, and well-referenced reflections and suggestions regarding thematic issues, pedagogic concepts and methods, formal and informal practices, institutional setups, and policy frameworks. UC Santa Barbara - Temporary Lecturer, Department of Anthropology, Pooled Recruitment


The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified, part-time, temporary lecturers to teach various courses in sociocultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology for potential openings. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the Department and may include our ANTH 2 Introductory Cultural Anthropology course of 550 students or ANTH 5 Introductory Biological Anthropology of 400 students. The Department seeks applicants for Spring 2020, Summer Session 2020 and Fall quarter 2020, Winter 2021 and Spring 2021.

Lesya Shchutska wants to prove the existence of heavy neutrinos

Lesya Shchutska (pronounced: Schutska) is 33 years old and already Professor of Elementary Particle Physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). "At the moment I can't imagine doing anything other than physics," says the researcher, who deals with particles that so far only exist in the minds of theoretical physicists.

Die Bewegung «Scientists for Future» ruft mit der Selbstverpflichtung «Unter 1000 mach’ ich’s nicht!» Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler auf, auf dienstliche Kurzstreckenflüge bis 1000 Kilometer zu verzichten, wenn die Reise mit alternativen Verkehrsmitteln in maximal 12 Stunden durchführbar ist. Auch für Privatpersonen und Unternehmen gibt es eine Initiative dazu.

Research award for the comparison of cultivation systems in Bolivia, India and Kenya

A long-term experiment run by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) in Bolivia, India and Kenya shows that organic farming provides several benefits for small farmers in the tropics. At the beginning of December, the Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research (SFIAR) awarded the research prize to this experiment at ETH Zurich.
Marcel Tanner, professeur ordinaire d’épidémiologie et de parasitologie à l’Université de Bâle, a été directeur de l’Institut tropical et de santé publique suisse (Swiss TPH) à Bâle de 1997 à 2015. De 1981 à 1984, il a dirigé la station extérieure du Swiss TPH à Ifakara, en Tanzanie (aujourd’hui Ifakara Health Institute). Il est docteur honoris causa de l’Université de Neuchâtel et de l’Université de Brisbane. Marcel Tanner préside depuis 2016 l’Académie suisse des sciences naturelles.

Marcel Tanner devient président ad interim des Académies suisses des sciences

Après sa nomination à la tête de la Jacobs University à Brême (Allemagne), le professeur Antonio Loprieno remet la présidence des Académies suisses des sciences à l’actuel vice- président, le professeur Marcel Tanner, président de l’Académie suisse des sciences naturelles. Antonio Loprieno conserve la présidence des All European Academies.
