Excursion: Woodpeckers
Ornithological excursion "Woodpeckers"
We will try to find the most common woodpeckers in the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, namely the spotted woodpecker, the lesser spotted woodpecker, the green woodpecker and the black woodpecker.
The physical build of the woodpecker are well-adapted to their life style, such as climbing vertical tree trunks. They have a pronounced tail feathers that are stiffened to some extent and have strong feet with sharp claws. A powerful straight beak equipped with a shock-absorbing skull construction allows them not only to search for food in the form of insects residing in wood and to make nests, but also enables that familiar drumming in the search for a mate and for marking its territory.
The excursion is conducted in German and French
